The Day I Kissed New Year Resolution Goodbye

With the new year approaching, we are all busy making plans for our lives or situation and even probably making new habits or changing existing ones. We take stock of the year that’s now behind us and make goals and resolutions for the one ahead. You might write down your resolutions around things like eating healthy. exercising more, quitting smoke, texting less, spending more time with family without any electronic devices. And, as many people are aware off, around 30 days later is when we’ll break those resolutions. So the question is…. why in the world do we keep making them?

Why did I stop writing down my new year resolution? It’s just simple. I find myself trying so hard to change the old habits that I was losing myself along the way. According to Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist, and Harvard Business School professor, these resolutions could actually be doing more harm than good. The problem is easy: We’re setting ourselves up for failure… and failure isn’t a very good motivator.

By now, most of you must be wondering, then what do we do? What are the biggest reasons new habits fail to stick? And what can we do to make positive changes easier? To be truthful, after years of changing my way of approach towards how I see new year resolution work, let me share the most practical insights I’ve learned so far.

#1 –  I promised to make the rest of my life, the best as long as I breath

This is my first & the most important belief. I promised myself that I will make the best out of my life before anything. To value every moment I can carry all my life, cherishing my loved ones as a precious gift and remind myself that I never know how much time is left. Aaaaand accepts the situation I find myself in and uses it as a foundation in which I can build the life that I have been dreaming of. Lastly, spending more time doing the things that I truly love to do, with the people that I cherish.

#2 – Embraced the power to let go of every negativity

So here’s what it is now, I have stopped letting my life being dominated by fear and worry, instead, I choose to have the courage to take a risk. When I have mastered this life lesson, I learned to be happy with what I already have, instead of making my happiness dependent on materialistic influences, such as wealth and material things. Secondly, to have compassion for others and see if I can give something back in return – by creating value for others. The best feeling of all is when you allow the inner flow and see where it leads you and never allow excuses to stand between you and the life you aspire.

Perhaps you have read it in my article 7 Daily Positivism about self-love, I stand strong on this word firmly. I will always give myself this LOVE regardless! It’s a very unique love that nobody can give you but yourself. But first you understand this simple principle, NEVER find for happiness on the outside factor but rather, be content on the inside. NO MATTER WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE …. Choose to smile in every circumstance, you will be HAPPIER! Trust me, it has worked for me many times when I was at the lowest point, it’s like an inside morphing that cheers you up and uplifts your emotions at that point of time – Just so you know, it has been proven psychologically!

Wavering willpower is something you’re bound to experience and which may lead to a failed resolution. But this, just makes us human, not losers. Just pick it back up where you left off. And start fresh, it’s never too late for any changes in your life – Only if you choose to have a fulfilling one.

‘….Life is beautiful, as long as it consumes you. When it is rushing through you, destroying you -Life is gorgeous ..glorious. It’s when you burn a slow fire and save fuel, that life’s not worth having…..’
