Life Stages of A Content Creator

Understanding where your brand and business is at will help you set better goals and strategy around what to focus on this year. Do you know what life stage you’re at as a content creator?

• If you aren’t sure where to start with setting goals as a content creator or aspiring influencer, I recommend reflecting on where you’re at on your journey.

• If you’re a newer influencer, your goals might be around figuring out your brand identity, mission statement, or even who your target/ideal audience should be.

• If you’re a mature influencer, your goals might be to bring in a consistent income or diversify your income streams outside of brand collaborations or affiliate sales.

While there are many steps in building your brand and influence and phases in between, I thought it would be helpful to break down the four general content creator life stages.

CONTENT CREATOR LIFE STAGES: SEED

A newer influencer who probably just started their Instagram, blog, YouTube, TikTok, etc.

As a new content creator, you might be trying to figure out if creating content is for you. You be asking questions like:

  • Who am I as a brand?
  • How do I consistently post content?
  • How do I grow my audience?

As a new influencer, your focus might be on establishing brand identity and understanding your platform. You might try to figure out how to post consistently or how the Instagram algorithm works.

CONTENT CREATOR LIFE STAGES: SPROUT

Still, a new-ish influencer but has probably established at least one social media platform or own platforms, like blog, podcast, or YouTube. As a Sprout, you might ask questions like:

  • How do I deliver value?
  • How do I build community and trust?
  • How do I work with brands?

 As a new-ish influencer, you understand the importance of hashtags and you’ve built up your audience. But you might be focused on learning the business side of the influencer industry. You might be interested in learning how influencers make money.

CONTENT CREATOR LIFE STAGES: DAISY

As a mature influencer, you’ve probably established more than one social media platform. You have an Instagram, maybe a YouTube channel or a blog, and you’ve expanded on TikTok or Pinterest.

As a mature content creator, you’ve established your brand and you’ve experienced making money off your side-hustle or full-time creative career. You might be focused on investing in mentorship or courses to take your business to the next level. Here are a few more questions you might ask:

  • How do I grow and scale my brand and business?
  • How do I diversify my platforms and increase my reach?
  • Is mentorship right for me? Are courses right for me?




CONTENT CREATOR LIFE STAGES: SUNFLOWER

As a flowering influencer, you have established multiple social media and digital channels. You know exactly who you are as a brand and business. You have an acute understanding of who your audience is and how you deliver value to them.

As a Sunflower, your focus might be around outsourcing tasks and business functions so you can continue to innovate and grow your brand. Your focus might be questioning what’s next for your brand.

  • Should you further diversify your brand on a new platform?
  • Should you launch a product or service?
  • Should you launch your own brand?
  • What business functions should you outsource?
